The company is primarily engaged in the design manufacture and maintenance of trains and railway equipment. The company with headquarters in Las Rozas de Madrid, Spain, was established by Jose Luis de Oriol y Urigüen in 1942. The company is one of world's leader in tilting trains and high speed trains. The company provides passenger rail administrations around the world with high speed cars and locomotives, car maintenance equipment and maintenance services. The company's geographical presence in Spain is split into six operational centers, four of which are located in the Madrid area, and the other two in Alava and Catalonia respectively. The company's manufacturing plant in Las Matas II- manufactures locomotives, manufacturing and maintenance of bogies and wheel-sets, manufacturing of under-floor wheel lathes and assembly and over-haul of cars. It also houses the commercial and the procurement managements as well as, the technical and design office which also incorporates the services provided by the laboratory for data acquisition and analysis. The Rivabellosa Manufacturing Plant located in the province of Alava is engaged in the complete manufacturing of Talgo trains, since 1964. The company also has a maintenance workshops in Santa Catalina and Barcelona. The base-workshop in Barcelona is also the starting point overnight international services bound for Paris (France), Zurich (Switzerland), Milan (Italy) and as well as some day and night services in Spain. The company, an ISO 9000 certified also has operations in Germany, United States of America, and Finland. The company is also present in other countries of the world via a wide network of representatives and agents. Its clients in Spain include: Renfe, CAF, Gestor de Infraestructuras Ferroviarias, Metro de Bilbao, Metro de Madrid, Metro de Barcelona, Ferrocarriles Vascos, Ferrocarriles Generalitat Calatana, Ferrocarriles Generalitat Valenciana, Ferrocarriles Espanoles de Via Estrecha, Nertus (Renfe-Siemens), Serveis Ferrroviaris de Mallorca, and Alstom.
